WiMax U.S. Rollout Schedule

WiMax U.S. rollout schedule is now in the final stages at Sprint, which has spent some USD 5 billion to cover around 30 cities (covering some 100 million people) with the technology, which they call 4G.

WiMAX has a range of 8 kilometres up to 50 kilometres, and the promise to revolutionary change in the world of broadband access.

Although Sprint has given no indications as to how much the access will cost, Intel has estimated that the service could be offered worldwide for about 25 dollars a month per end user.

Sprint is going to release the technology in 2008 for wide use, at the same time that Intel starts shipping chips that support WiMax for laptops and desktop computers.

To be more exact, starting November 2007, Intel will roll out a line of chips named Penryn that will the smallest, most powerful and efficient chips from Intel ever, and yes, these Penryn chips will also include built-in WiMAX.
