Mediterranean cruises are offered by some 52 different cruise lines, with some 69 ports of call in the region.

The Mediterranean has several advantages over other cruising areas, with its diversity of cultures, peoples, languages and history in the region.

The best cruise season is from Spring through the Autumn. Even in the Winter months the climate is generally mild.

Historically, to the ancient people of Mesopotamia, Babylonia, Syria, Palestine and Egypt the Mediterranean was "The Great Sea".

The region holds many treasures, including many architectural masterpieces, such as the Parthenon in Athens, Chartres Cathedral in France, the Hagia Sofia in Istanbul and St. Peter's in Rome.

Also, throughout the Mediterranean there are scattered hundreds of islands. The largest of these are Sardinia and Sicily.

Next in size comes Corsica, just north of Sardinia and Cyprus and Crete, in the eastern Mediterranean.
