Bandwidth
The rate at which you can send or receive information through your connection to the Internet at an Internet cafe. Business Center Some Internet cafes are organized as business centers. At the center, you typically get access to the latest office software, printers, and other office equipment in addition to Internet access and refreshments. Some allow short computer rentals of one hour of less, while others require membership registrations and monthly subscriptions. BYOL Short for Bring Your Own Laptop. Some Internet cafes, especially those that organize gaming tournaments, allow you to bring your own laptop to the cafe instead of using their computers for wired Internet connection. Internet Cafe A cafe that offers public access to computers that are connected to the Internet, used for web surfing or e-mail for example. Also known as cybercafes. Internet Cafe Membership Many Internet cafes offer membership options. Internet cafe Internet/computer access prices are typically lower for members than non-members. Also, some popular Internet gaming cafes guarantee seating for their members. Internet Gaming Cafe An Internet cafe that specializes in offering the latest computer games to Internet cafe customers. Usually these cafes organize LAN parties. LAN Party A party/tournament, in which computer gamers gather at an Internet cafe to play games over a broadband connection, LAN or WLAN network. Manga Cafe The name used in Japan for Internet cafes. The name has origins in the fact that Japanese cybercafes are popular as places where people not only use the Internet but also read comics ("manga" means comics in Japanese). Metered Internet Access This is the basic method by which the price for your Internet usage at an Internet cafe is determined. Many cafes use automated metering software, which require you to log into the computer, then the software will automatically log you off when your purchased time is up. PC Bangs The name for Internet cafes in South Korea. These cafes are mainly focused on online game playing. In Korean, "Bang" means room, so the term literally means a PC room. Lately, the term has also been a popular term in Los Angeles for Internet gaming cafes. WiFi Short for Wireless Fidelity - Otherwise known as Wireless Networking, commonly using the 802.11b or 802.11g protocol. In many Internet cafes, you can connect your laptop to the Internet via WiFi connection, provided that your laptop has WiFi support. WiFi Cafe An Internet cafe that does not have computers available, but does offer WiFi connection to the Internet for those that bring their own computer (laptop).
