The Houston George Bush International airport is located approximately 23 miles north of downtown Houston, near the Sam Houston Tollway.

Previously called Houston Intercontinental Airport, the airport was renamed George Bush Intercontinental Airport/Houston in 1997, in honor of Former President George Bush.

President Bush is a long time resident of Houston and was in fact present at the airport's opening in 1969 as a Member of Congress representing the Houston area.

The George Bush airport is the 8th busiest airport in the U.S. for total passengers and the 8th largest international passenger gateway in the nation.

Houston Airport Car Rentals - Companies

The Houston airport is serviced by rental car companies from a central location at the Consolidated Rental Car Facility (which was opened for business in August, 2003).

The Consolidated Rental Car Facility is located on the east side of JFK Blvd, less than 5 minutes from the terminals.

Instead of their own shuttle buses (as was the case previously), the rental car companies now have a shared bus system.

To get to the rental car facility, follow the Rental Car signs at your arriving terminal and look for the white and maroon buses marked "Rental Car Shuttle".
