Additional Costs Raise the Cost of Cheap Flights
According to research by Britain’s Air Transport Users Council (AUC), airlines constantly add taxes, fees and charges to the charges on cheap flights. These additional costs have increased proportionally to the total cost of air travel in recent years.
In fact, the AUC warns consumers to keep on eye on the additional charges column, as airlines may think of new ways to introduce these additional charges on top of the cheap base prices for airline tickets. According to AUC, these charges for the budget airlines can be as much as the base price paid for the ticket. There are great differences for the additional charges between different airlines and routes as well. According to the AUC survey, for example, Ryanair customers paid more than twice as much in taxes, fees and charges than Easyjet customers on the London Stansted-Valencia route.
